Dr. Bill's July Blog.....Sunshine is here!!

Well hello again!  Let me just pause my listening to the “Hamilton” soundtrack (thank you, Disney+! Am I the only person who is just now getting into this musical??  Uggh…not unlike my clothing and hair style, I am like five years behind the curve!!)

So summer is here and the heat is killing everything except this dang virus (my lawn, my energy, my electricity bill…).  If you are like me, by this point you are trying anything to get out of the house, or at least trying to get anywhere that is not your own four walls.  All this time of quarantining and safer at home has made everyone a little stir crazy.  So a few tips…

If you are going outside, drink plenty of water!!  It is hot…you sweat a lot…water is your best friend!  Don’t let your child tell you that they need Gatorade or certainly not a soda…water is perfect and they need it!  When your child is playing and outside, just like you and me they sweat and are hot.  If you are out whether it be at the pool or at a park, just carry a bottle of water with you.  And use it!!  Remember, children won’t always tell you when they are hot and getting thirsty, especially if they are playing and having a good time, so take scheduled breaks to rehydrate!

When getting the kids out of the house, try doing it earlier in the morning, or in the evenings when it is not so hot.  Also, when outside remember that everyone needs sun screen.  At least SPF 30 or higher, and you need to make sure that you reapply it every hour or two, especially when at the pool.  Just because it says on the bottle that it lasts all day, DON’T BELIEVE IT!!  Set your alarm and reapply liberally (perhaps it’s time for a drink of water, too!)

Okay, briefly about the virus.  It has invaded every aspect of our life and is a constant reminder that 2020 has been, and continues to be, a weird (at best) year.  Yes, the numbers in Texas keep going up, and as we try to return to some semblance of “normal”, please remember to wear your mask when indoors and when outside if it is impossible to keep six feet away from others.

And there are many, MANY calls coming to the office asking about returning children to day cares and what to do in the fall when school starts again.  You are all asking great questions and I know that they come from the heart and from a place of concern for your children.  Please know that Pete and I have the same concerns for your children (and ours!) but there are no general blanket easy answers.  We can’t make these decisions for you, but certainly can try to help give you what information you need in order to make better educated decisions for your family.  As always we are but a phone call away and happy to help in any way we can.  Just call!  We will make it through this!

Now, back to a rapping Alexander Hamilton…
