ADD/ADHD Medication and Controlled Medications Policy
Your child has been prescribed a medication that is a controlled substance. In order to ensure that you do not run out of medication we would like to provide you with our office policies on controlled substance medication refills.
We require that you call the office (do not call the answering service they cannot take a request for medication)during office hours when your child has 3 – 4 days of medication remaining, please request a refill, you need to know what the medication name and dosage, along with the pharmacy information to include address and phone number. We can electronically send controlled medications to participating pharmacies.
Office hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Please understand that we ask for 24 to 48 hours in which to review the chart and process the script.
If you have any questions or concerns with the medication, we may need extra time to talk to you about your concerns.
- To ensure that the medication is appropriate we require periodic medication checks. This is an office visit in which your child needs to be present. We may also ask for weight checks from time to time.
- We ask that your child have a current Well Child Visit within the past 12 months before we refill any ADD/ADHD medications. If these appointments are not current, you will be asked to schedule an appointment before your child’s medication will be refilled.
- If you choose to pick up your prescription then the parent must be the one to pick up the prescription, you can make arrangements for another adult to pick it up for you but we have to have a consent on file from the parent.
- All prescriptions must be picked up within 7 days. Office hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
